About Surge

Surge is an open source download manager that runs in the terminal. It is written in Go and is aimed at power users who prefer a keyboard-driven workflow. It includes an interactive terminal interface for viewing progress, managing the queue, and seeing speed graphs, a background headless server, and a CLI tool for automation.

Surge opens multiple connections for a single download, by default up to 16, splits the file, and downloads the pieces in parallel. It can also download from multiple mirrors at once and handle failover automatically. Installation options are listed for Linux (AppImage, Arch AUR, Nix, Homebrew), macOS (Homebrew), Windows (winget, Scoop, Chocolatey), and Docker. Pricing is not stated. The project's maintainers say donations are optional and go toward publishing a browser extension, development tools, and testing support for Debrid integration, which is not yet built.
