About Testing

Trans Harm Reduction organises laboratory testing of HRT sources commonly used by trans people who self-medicate. Each vial is tested for concentration (strength) and for contamination (impurities), and results are published with advertised concentration, measured concentration, batch information and contamination findings.

Testing is complicated and costs €300 per sample for one vial, so testing on request is not currently offered. The site accepts donations in GBP and EUR to support continued testing of common sources.

Testing FAQ

What does HRT source testing involve?
Testing a vial of HRT for concentration (strength) and for contamination (impurities).
Why is lab testing of these HRT sources done?
Homebrew HRT is not subject to the same standards as prescription products, so testing indicates whether the advertised concentration is correct and whether a source might be contaminated or unsafe for other reasons.
Can I request testing of a specific vial?
No. Due to the cost, testing on request cannot currently be organised or covered.
