About Translate Web Pages

Translate Web Pages is a browser extension that translates the text of the web page you are viewing, in real time, using Google, Bing, or Yandex. According to the project's FAQ, the current page is translated without opening new tabs, and the translation language and automatic translation can be set. The project's homepage lists installation for Firefox on desktop and Android. Installation for Chrome, Edge, and Brave is not yet official, and the project asks users who installed it there through a registry modification to undo those changes.

To translate a page, the extension needs permission to read and modify text on the websites you visit. The developer's privacy policy says no information is collected, but page contents are sent to Google or Yandex servers to be translated. Some pages, including support.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org, cannot be translated because the browser blocks extensions from accessing them. The source code is open source under the MPL-2.0 license.

Translate Web Pages FAQ

Why does the extension need access to data on all the websites I visit?
To translate any website, the extension must access and modify the text of the web pages, and it can only do that with that permission.
Are my pages sent to an outside service when they are translated?
Yes. The privacy policy says the developer does not collect any information, but the contents of the web pages are sent to Google or Yandex servers in order to translate them.
Why are some pages not translated?
Pages such as support.mozilla.org and addons.mozilla.org are not translated because, for security reasons, the browser blocks extensions from accessing these sites.
