Coupled Model Intercomparison Project
The Coupled Model Intercomparison Project page describes CMIP5, a climate model evaluation project presented by PCMDI.

About Coupled Model Intercomparison Project
The page describes CMIP5, the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, coordinated through the WCRP Working Group on Coupled Modelling after a September 2008 meeting of 20 climate modeling groups. It provides a multi-model context for examining cloud and carbon-cycle feedbacks, decadal climate predictability, and why similarly forced models produce different responses.
It promotes a standard set of simulations to evaluate the recent past and provide projections for the near term to about 2035 and the long term to 2100 and beyond. The finalized design includes decadal hindcasts and predictions, long-term, and atmosphere-only simulations with prescribed sea surface temperature, and the page states CMIP5 is not comprehensive.
Key features

- Decadal hindcasts and predictions simulation suite
- Long-term climate simulations suite
- Atmosphere-only simulations with prescribed sea surface temperature
- Near-term projections to about 2035 and long-term beyond 2100
- Evaluation of models in simulating the recent past
- Brings together coordinated experiments from 20 climate modeling groups
- Uses a standard set of simulations to compare models and projections
- Provided model output for evaluation in the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report
- Stated as not comprehensive and unable to include all intercomparison activities
