About danmakustr

danmakustr is a Chrome extension that displays decentralized scrolling comments, called danmaku, on YouTube videos. Each danmaku is published as a Nostr event and stored and shared through Nostr relays. Users can click a danmaku to open its corresponding video and reply to it with the extension. The author also provides a web page that displays all danmaku.

The extension can be installed from the Chrome Web Store or built from source. Users can run their own relay, either the author's desktop relay for non-technical users or a server relay built with Node.js and PostgreSQL. The project is open source under the MIT license. The author states that there are currently not many users, so there are few danmaku. Several planned features, including a configurable relay list, custom danmaku colors and display modes, private key login, history, reactions, and downloads, are listed as to-do items and are not described as available.
