About DMS

DMS is a UPnP DLNA Digital Media Server that runs from the terminal and serves content directly from the working directory or a given path. It advertises and serves raw files along with alternate transcoded streams when able, such as mpeg2 PAL-DVD and WebM for Chromecast, and provides thumbnails where possible.

It can also serve dynamic streams, such as a live RTSP stream, generated on the fly with an external application such as ffmpeg. Media data, transcoding, and thumbnails depend on ffprobe/avprobe, ffmpeg/avconv, and ffmpegthumbnailer being in the PATH; features requiring missing commands are disabled.

DMS FAQ

What external programs does DMS need for full function?
It uses ffprobe/avprobe for media data such as bitrate and duration, ffmpeg/avconv for video transcoding, and ffmpegthumbnailer for thumbnails. They must be in the PATH given to DMS or the features requiring them will be disabled.
How do I install and run DMS?
With Go and GOPATH configured, run go install github.com/anacrolix/dms@latest, ensure ffmpeg/avconv and/or ffmpegthumbnailer are in the PATH if needed, then run the installed dms binary.
