LAN Mouse
LAN Mouse shares a mouse and keyboard across computers over a local network.

About LAN Mouse
Lan Mouse is an open-source software KVM switch: it lets a single mouse and keyboard control several computers over a local network, in the manner of Apple's Universal Control. It is written in Rust and includes a GTK desktop frontend along with command-line and IPC components. Network traffic is encrypted with the DTLS implementation from WebRTC.rs, though the project states there are currently no mitigations in place for timing side-channel attacks.
Supported systems include GNOME 45 and newer, KDE Plasma 6.1 and newer, most wlroots-based compositors such as Sway 1.8+, Hyprland and Wayfire, plus Windows and macOS. X11 currently supports input emulation only, so it can act as the receiving side but not the sending side. Installation options include Arch repositories, the AUR, Nix, the Fedora Terra repository, winget, and precompiled release binaries for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Key features
- Shares one mouse and keyboard across multiple computers on a local network
- Encrypts network traffic with DTLS from WebRTC.rs
- GTK frontend alongside CLI and IPC components
- Supports GNOME 45+, KDE Plasma 6.1+, wlroots compositors, Windows and macOS
- Packaged for Arch, Nix, Fedora Terra and winget
- Written in Rust with modular input-capture and input-emulation backends
- Open-source alternative to proprietary KVM-switch tools
- Encrypts all network traffic between devices
- Covers Linux desktops, Windows and macOS
- X11 supports input emulation only, so it cannot send input to other machines
- No mitigations in place for timing side-channel attacks
- Wayland setups have caveats: Wayfire needs a recent version and the shortcuts-inhibit plugin, and wlroots compositors without libei on the receiving side do not handle modifier events from non-layer-shell senders
