About Mist

Mist is an open source Mac utility that downloads macOS firmware and installer files. It lists the macOS firmwares and installers available for download, with names, versions, builds, release dates and sizes. The list can optionally include beta versions, and it can be filtered to versions compatible with the Mac running the app. Apple Silicon Macs can download firmware restore files (.ipsw), and Intel-based Macs can generate application bundles, disk images, bootable ISO images or installer packages. Downloads are validated with checksums, and failed downloads are retried automatically.

Mist runs on macOS Monterey 12.0 and later. Catalogs from Apple's Seed Programs may contain beta or unreleased versions of macOS, so users should be members of those programs before using them. Depending on what is downloaded, Mist may need Full Disk Access, which is granted in System Settings. The app can be downloaded from the releases page or installed with Homebrew.
