Natural Heritage Information Centre
Ontario's Natural Heritage Information Centre tracks biodiversity and conducts field research on priority species and areas.

About Natural Heritage Information Centre
Ontario’s Natural Heritage Information Centre is the province’s conservation data centre. It tracks biodiversity by collecting, reviewing, managing and distributing information on species of conservation concern, rare and exemplary plant communities, and wildlife concentration areas. Staff conduct field research and surveys for priority species and areas across Ontario.
The site explains how observation records are reviewed and added to the provincial record, how observations are mapped as points with an uncertainty distance, and how conservation status ranks are assigned. It also describes the Natural Heritage Methodology developed with the NatureServe network, including Global, National and Subnational ranks. Visitors can learn how to report observations that contribute to the provincial record.
It suits researchers, agencies, planners, policymakers and conservation partners who use Ontario natural heritage data, as well as members of the public interested in biodiversity and species conservation in the province.
