About Translumo
Translumo is an open-source, Windows-only screen translator that reads text on screen in real time and displays a translation. It is built for PC games but works with any application, including hardcoded video subtitles and static text. Users pick a capture area and languages, recognition runs through one or more OCR engines, and a machine learning model scores the results to choose the best one.
Windows OCR is recommended and needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later, a DirectX 11 compatible GPU and 2 GB RAM. EasyOCR handles unusual fonts and busy backgrounds better but requires an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA 11.8 support, 8 GB RAM and at least 5 GB free storage. Google Translate works without setup; DeepL and Yandex Translate go through their official APIs and need API keys (DeepL's free plan covers 500,000 characters per month). Games must run in borderless or windowed mode, not fullscreen, for the translation overlay to display correctly.
