About Effects

EasyEffects is an open-source audio processing application for PipeWire. It was formerly known as PulseEffects and was renamed after it moved from GTK4 and GStreamer to native PipeWire filters. The project later moved from GTK4 to Qt, QML, and KDE/Kirigami.

It provides a chain of audio effects, including a limiter, compressor, convolver, equalizer, auto-gain, noise reduction, and several filter modes. The user can change the order of the effects. Some effects depend on separate plugin packages that may not be installed by default, so a given effect may be unavailable on a particular system. The Flatpak package includes all available plugins. The project also warns against setting EasyEffects virtual devices as the default audio input or output, because it is designed on the assumption that the hardware remains the default device.

Key features

  • Limiter, compressor, and multiband compressor effects
  • Equalizer and filter modes: low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, band-reject
  • Convolver effect for convolution processing
  • Autogain and level meter effects
  • User-adjustable effect order using up and down arrows
  • Noise reduction and deep noise remover effects
Best for: Linux users running PipeWire who want to apply equalizing, dynamics, or other audio effects to their system audio.

Effects FAQ

Is easyeffects.org the official website?
The repository's author states they have nothing to do with easyeffects.org and that it is probably a scam. The GitHub repository is the source referenced for the project.
Should EasyEffects virtual devices be set as the default audio device?
No. The project warns against this, because EasyEffects is designed on the assumption that the hardware remains the default device.
Why might some effects be unavailable?
Some packages do not include all plugin packages by default. The homepage lists the plugins needed for specific effects, such as Calf Studio plugins for certain effects, ZamAudio for the maximizer, and zita-convolver for the convolver.
