About Etchdroid
EtchDroid is an open-source Android application that writes operating-system images to USB drives without requiring root access. It is intended for making a bootable USB drive, for example to install or run an operating system when a laptop is not working.
The app supports USB flash drives and USB SD card adapters. It does not support USB hard drives, SSDs, USB docks or hubs, internal SD card slots, optical or floppy drives, or Thunderbolt-only devices. Supported image types include modern GNU/Linux images and Raspberry Pi SD card images, which must be unzipped first. Official Microsoft Windows ISOs, Apple DMG images, and Linux images older than 2010 are not supported. Telemetry differs by build: F-Droid builds include none, while Google Play and GitHub builds collect minimal, anonymous data such as opened image file names and USB device IDs. Telemetry can be disabled in the app menu.
