About Geo Share

GeoShare is an Android app that opens a shared map link in another installed map app. It handles links from services including Google Maps, Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap, OsmAnd, Organic Maps and Waze. It converts links offline when coordinates are in the URL. If coordinates are missing, it asks before connecting to the map service. A result based only on a place name may open a different place with the same name.

Pricing is not clearly stated.

Key features

  • Show coordinates and copy them in formats such as geo: links
  • Save a location as a GPX file
  • Show all points in a place-list link
  • Launch navigation in apps that support it, including TomTom
  • Open a location in pre-installed or custom web maps
  • Send a location through a messaging app
  • Save a location to a contact
  • Paste map links into the app instead of sharing them
Best for: Android users who receive map links and prefer to open them in a different map or navigation app.
Watch out for
  • If online conversion is allowed, the map service receives the link and can see your IP address.
  • If you decline the connection, some links become a search-term link or stop instead of opening coordinates.
  • Points identified only by name are not included in GPX routes.

Geo Share FAQ

What happens during an online lookup?
It may read coordinates from HTTP headers, the page HTML, the map service API, or the live page. For some links it uses the open-source GeoShare Server, which calls the map API. That server keeps no logs of map links but stores a device key and your IP address for a limited time for rate limiting.
